Benzodiazepines

Benzodiazepines are prescription medications that are central nervous system (CNS) depressants that can slow brain activity, making them useful for treating anxiety, panic attacks, acute stress reactions, and sleep disorders, in the short term. Examples of benzodiazepines are diazepam, clonazepam, lorazepam, and alprazolam. Benzodiazepines can cause a serious physical dependence if taken long term and should not be stopped abruptly.
