Addiction Practice Changes in the COVID Era and New ASAM Clinical Guidelines

April 2, 2020 by NYSAM

During these unprecedented and trying times, information is coming at us from many angles and it’s hard to keep up. ASAM has thankfully created a platform to share the most up to date national and state guidance on how to continue to deliver evidence-based care to our vulnerable patients with substance use disorders. View ASAM resources.

Additional Updates

  1. We will be holding a webinar on Tuesday, April 7 at 4pm EST to share best practices on telehealth implementation and how many around the state are keeping addiction treatment access open. Thankfully, new SAMHSA and the DEA regulations allow telephonic (audio only) visits effective 3/31/20 until further notice in the context of the COVID-19 public health emergency. For more information and to submit questions before the session please email us.
  2. Access to treatment and hospital services have become limited, it is imperative that we are continuing to care for our patients at risk for alcohol withdrawal. To that end, ASAM has released their new alcohol withdrawal guidelines early. View the ASAM guidelines.
  3. ASAM National Practice Guideline for the Treatment of Opioid Use Disorder, 2020 Focused Update is now available.
  4. SAMHSA has provided guidance on available online support groups, provided by SAMHSA. Read the SAMHSA resources.
