Title: Advancing Health Equity in Substance Use Disorder Treatment
Speaker: Myra Mathis, MD
Myra L. Mathis, MD, is a faculty member and board certified General Adult and Addiction Psychiatrist at the University of Rochester Department of Psychiatry. An undergraduate and medical school alumnus of the University of Rochester, Dr. Mathis trained in General Adult and Addiction Psychiatry at Yale University School of Medicine. She is currently the Medical Director for Strong Recovery, UR Medicine’s outpatient dual-diagnosis clinic which houses an Opioid Treatment Program and provides a full range of addiction and psychiatric services. Contributing author to several peer reviewed articles and book chapters, Dr. Mathis’ academic interests include racial health equity and social justice in psychiatry and addiction, and medical education for students, residents and fellows in the treatment of substance use disorders.
Description: In this 60-minute webinar, Dr. Mathis will deliver a presentation with interactive Q&A on the historical context of health inequities in addiction care and the importance of integrating an anti-racist framework to address these inequities.

- Define an anti-racist framework for addiction medicine

Title: Managing Alcohol Use Disorder in Individuals with Alcohol-related Liver Disease
Speaker: Mashal Khan, MD
Mashal Khan, MD, is a Xi’an-Jiaotong University School of Medicine graduate and trained at Maimonides Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident. Following his residency training, he completed a Fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Mount Sinai St. Luke’s-West. He is board-certified in general and addiction psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
Dr. Khan is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry Weill Cornell Medicine, where he works with the Liver Transplant Team and also serves as the Associate Program Director for the Addiction Psychiatry Fellowship.
Description: In this 60-minute webinar, Dr. Khan will deliver a presentation with interactive Q&A on the challenges of alcohol use disorder management among patients with alcohol associated liver disease and review current evidence and treatment options to optimize their care.
