Second Annual Statewide Overdoes Awareness Day (OAD) Event
Wednesday, Sept 14 & Thursday, Sept 15, 2022
The second annual statewide Overdose Awareness Day (OAD) honors the lives of individuals lost to overdose and recognizes people, providers and programs working to reduce stigma and overdose in New York State. This two-day event will be virtual and accessible at in-person sites around the State on day one. This year’s OAD is co-sponsored by the New York State Department of Health and the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports.
WEDNESDAY, SEPT 14, 3-6PM: FOR THE PUBLIC AND PROVIDERS
A three-hour event to remember people who have died of an overdose and honoring of those who have survived. Join us for a community led event in-person or virtual to participate in:
- Welcoming remarks
- Remembrance photo slide show
- Conversations with people with lived experience
- about their personal experiences with overdose, drug use, and more
- Share your reflections with our community
- Virtual safe space for anyone needing support
THURSDAY, SEPT 15, 11-2PM: FOR HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICE PROVIDERS SERVING PEOPLE WHO USE DRUGS (PWUD)
All peers and direct service providers are welcome to join this virtual three-hour event to acknowledge and celebrate providers who work with people who use drugs. Join us as we hear from keynote presenters, workshops, and panels that will explore the following topics:
- Learn more about suicide, overdose, and other traumatic loss
- Discuss stimulant use and overdoses
- Empower and mobilize to end overdoses
- Explore what’s in the drug supply
