  • « Addiction Medicine Summer Social featuring Guest Speaker Dr. Liz Chiarello

Integrative Behavioral Health in Addiction Medicine SIG meeting on Tuesday, August 11, at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Featured Speaker: Dr. Rita Aszalos
Topic: Trauma-Informed Addiction Care: Lessons from Clinical Practice

In her work as a Family and Addiction Medicine physician prescribing buprenorphine, and also working in an Opioid Treatment Program, Dr. Rita Aszalos found that her patients were often her greatest teachers. Their experiences prompted her to broaden her understanding of how personal histories, trauma, and the interactions among the nervous, endocrine, and other body systems influence health, illness, and recovery.

In this informal and interactive discussion, Dr. Aszalos will share clinical cases and practice-based insights that led her to explore PTSD, complex PTSD (cPTSD), and dissociation, and how these conditions can present in ways that may go unrecognized in healthcare settings. Participants will have opportunities to ask questions, reflect on their own clinical experiences, and engage in conversation about the challenges and opportunities of providing trauma-informed care.

Bring your questions and experiences for what promises to be a thoughtful and engaging conversation.
